The names are impressive: from Dave Koz, Maysa and Phil
Perry to Roy Ayers,Mindi Abair and Pieces of a Dream. With
that kind of well-known multicultural lineup taking center
stage, an overwhelming turnout is expected at the inaugural
Central Florida Jazz Festival May 23-24.
Yet, there’s more. The two-day stream of contemporary music
will be accompanied with plenty of upscale, mature and artistic
fun. Plus, the Memorial Day Weekend event, running noon to 8
p.m., is being held outdoors at the Central Florida Fairgrounds.

Book lovers, get ready. The book industry’s biggest event of the
year is set for April 22-26 at the Wyndham Orlando Resort.
The RT BOOKLOVERS Convention features two public
book signings,
where thousands
of readers can meet
more than 400 bestselling
authors. Writers will
learn how to write better
and get published, with
125 workshops to choose
from, covering 16 genres
of women’s fiction, including
teen fiction, urban fantasy,
romantic suspense and action adventure. There’s also a special
Reader Program, with fun workshops led by bestselling authors.
Plus, the convention is looking for some of Orlando’s finest hunks
to compete in its annual Mr. Romance Competition. The grand
prize is a New York City cover shoot for a Dorchester Publishing
romance novel.More than 1,000 women are expected to cheer on
the contestants.
