Building green is no longer trendy. Developers and homebuyers alike are making conscious choices to be environmentally friendly. For proof, consider Phase One of The Sage at Winter Park—expected to be the first completed green-certified multifamily project in Florida. The community will feature energy-efficient townhome-styled homes designed specifically to use less energy and natural resources and fewer toxic chemicals. It features two- , three- and four-bedroom townhomes, varying in size from 984 square feet to 1,468 square feet and priced from the $180,000s to $300,000.

The homes will be certified ENERGY STAR, which means they will be at least 20 percent more efficient than standard homes. Some of the energy-saving features in each Sage home: gas stoves, tankless hot water heaters, low-flow showerheads and other waterconserving fixtures, and high-efficiency air conditioning.

Each home at The Sage is inspected on three separate occasions by an independent consultant to ensure that rigorous standards have been met.
