HISPANIC MEDIA - TV AND RADIO MOVES

Entravision Communications Corp., diversified Spanish language media company, has been busy the past several months. The parent company of Univision 26 and Telefutura 43 has added a new amenityfilled production set, and it has acquired popular radio station Mega 98.1FM, pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission.

The new Univision Orlando News set features state-of-the-art equipment, such as 20 flat-screen monitors and a large rear-screen projection monitor; exclusive area for weather reporting with three flat-screen monitors; exclusive area for sports reporting; and separate multiuse area for interviews and performances.

As for the acquisition of Mega 98.1FM, at press time Entravision was managing the station and awaiting official approval and transfer of license. According to Antonio Guernica, Entravision’s vice president and general manager, those moves were expected by April.

MORE SPANISH RADIO

Existe una nueva emisora radial hispana en la frecuencia AM local: se trata de “La Preciosa”, 740AM. La emisora, cuyo formato anterior era los deportes, ahora se enfoca en los hispanos del área, particularmente los mejicanos, a pesar de que la programación no se origina a nivel local. La estación es propiedad de Clear Channel Communications, empresa que opera aproximadamente 1,100 emisoras a nivel nacional. En Orlando hay siete estaciones afiliadas a Clear Channel, incluyendo Rumba 100.3FM, la cual también transmite en español.
